Warm Thai Style Pork and Tomato Dip with Steamed Vegetables




Serves: 4


Preparation and Cooking Time: 25 minutes





Flavour Base Ingredients

  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1/8 cup lemon or lime juice
  • 1/8 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 500g minced pork
  • 500g canned diced tomatoes
  • Vegetable suggestions: carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms, capsicum





  • Place the flavour base ingredients into a food processor or blender and puree into a smooth paste.

  • Heat a large pan and add oil and the flavour base, cooking for a few minutes. This will release the flavours before you mix the the minced pork to brown, breaking it up with a potato masher so you don't have lumps.

  • Add the diced tomatoes and cook another 10 minutes, so the mixture reduces and becomes thick.

  • Cut the vegetables into small bight size pieces and steam for 5-8 minutes.

  • To serve: place the pork mix in a small bowl in the middle of each plate and surround with steamed veggies and pita chips. Show your kids how to dip and mix.
