Apple and Plum Crumble

Apple and Plum Crumble



Serves: 4


Cooking Time and Preparation: 60 minutes




  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • 1 cup of dessicated coconut
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds
  • 3/4 cup of self-raising wholemeal flour
  • 1/2 cup of soft brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 120g melted butter






Fruit Base Ingredients:


  • 3 granny smith apples
  • 375g tin whole plums in juice
  • 2 tablespoons arrowroot or cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract




  • place the rolled oats, coconut and sesame seeds into a large frypan or wok and dry fry on low heat for 8-10 minutes or until it starts to colour and become fragrant.

  • Mix in the flour, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and melted butter. Put to one side.

  • To make the fruit base, grate the apples with the skin on and place into a saucepan, remove the stones from the plums and add to the apples with the plum juice.

  • Bring the fruit base to the boil, mix a little water with the arrowroot until smooth and pour into to fruit. Mix well until it thickens then remove from the heat.

  • Grease a lasagne dish and pour in the fruit mix speading evenly. Allow to cool for 20 minutes.

  • Carefully sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit and bake on the top shelf for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.


Serve warm with cream, ice-cream or yoghurt.
